“Every step a child takes is a victory against disability — made possible through compassion, dedication, and the vision of those who care.”

Our History:

The Mahomed Gatrad Artificial Limb and Clubfoot Centre was established under the umbrella of the Decent Welfare Society (DWS) in Gujrat, Pakistan. The Society began its humanitarian journey in 1989 with a mission to reduce preventable disability and serve underprivileged communities through healthcare, education, and social welfare initiatives.

As DWS expanded its healthcare outreach, it became evident that there was a severe lack of facilities providing orthopedic and rehabilitation care between Lahore and Islamabad. To fill this gap, the Artificial Limb and Clubfoot Centre was founded in Gujrat — the only facility of its kind in the region offering completely free treatment to patients suffering from congenital deformities such as clubfoot, and to those requiring artificial limbs.

The Centre provides a complete range of services including diagnosis, casting, corrective procedures, bracing, physiotherapy, and long-term follow-up care. Each brace and artificial limb is carefully handcrafted by the team at the centre, reflecting both skill and dedication. These services have allowed hundreds of children and adults to regain their ability to walk and live independently.

The establishment and success of the Centre have been made possible through the unwavering support of Dr. Mohamed Gatrad OBE, a renowned British pediatrician and humanitarian. Dr. Gatrad has been the main driving force and sponsor behind the centre, funding the treatment of patients and ensuring that every deserving individual receives care free of cost. His commitment and generosity continue to guide the Centre’s mission to reduce disability and restore mobility.

Today, the Centre stands as a symbol of hope and compassion — serving patients from across Punjab and beyond.
